HEDENDAAGSE STILLEVENS
'Om de sfeer en dynamiek te creëren waarnaar ik zoek, experimenteer ik tijdens het schilderen voortdurend met contrast, details, licht en kleur.
Ik schilder een werk in 40 a 50 dunne laagjes. Graag kies ik voor een onconventionele compositie, waarbij ik een deel van het object of de achtergrond weglaat.

Objecten uit het verleden inspireren mij, het vakmanschap en de aandacht waarmee ze zijn gemaakt, hun gebruikssporen. Zoals keramiek uit China, Japan of Delft, dat kwetsbaar is maar ook sterk genoeg om vele generaties te overleven. Het onbekende verleden van een voorwerp intrigeert me.'

'To create the atmosphere and dynamic that pleases me, I continuously experiment with contrast, light, details and color while painting.
​
I create a painting in 40 to 50 thin layers. I love to experiment with the concept of still lifes by omitting the environment or part of the subject.
I am inspired by objects from the past, the craftsmanship and attention with which they are made and their traces of use. Like ceramics from China, Japan and Delft, which are vulnerable yet strong enough to survive many generations. The unknown past of an object intrigues me.'

(INTERNATIONALE) MUSEA EN AWARDS
Debora Makkus (autodidact) heeft 75 exposities op haar naam staan, waaronder ruim 40 museum-exposities, van Japan tot Spanje.
Zij had de eer om awards te ontvangen in Taipei, Bologna en de publieksprijs in MUSEUM GOUDA. Zij is door het publiek voorgedragen voor 'Kunstenaar van het jaar' en staat in de top 100 van de Galerie van Hedendaagse Kunstenaars 2025. Haar werk maakt deel uit van vele collecties.
(INTERNATIONAL) MUSEUMS AND AWARDS
Work by Debora Makkus (self thaught artist) was on show in 75 exhibitions, among which 40 museum exhibitions, from Japan to Spain.
She had the honour of receiving awards in Taipei, Bologna and the Public Choice Award at MUSEUM GOUDA.
She was nominated by the public for the Dutch 'Artist of the Year' award 2024 and 2025. Her work is part of many (international) collections.

LUMINEUS KLEUREFFECT
Als autodidact heeft Debora Makkus een eigen techniek ontwikkeld. Ze bouwt een werk op uit 40 a 50 laagjes (semi)transparante verf, wat bij verandering van lichtinval een lumineus kleureffect geeft.​
VIBRANT COLOUR EFFECT
​As a self thaught artist, Debora Makkus has developed her own technique. She builds a painting with 40 to 50 layers of (semi) transparent paint, which results in a luminous colour effect when the light changes.
